TAP-ER
Transition and Adaptation Plan for Emilia-Romagna
Turning complex climate datasets into operational tools for the regional adaptation strategy.
The project
TAP-ER is a Horizon Europe project promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region (central-northern Italy). The funding comes from the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) initiative, coordinated by Climate-KIC.
The objective is to update the regional adaptation strategy to the effects of climate crisis, in particular floods and heat waves, through:
- Advanced analyses of climate risks
- Improvement of multilevel governance
- Participatory paths involving stakeholders and experts
MEEO’s role
Within the TAP-ER project, MEEO operates as a technological partner. The activity focuses on the transformation of complex climate datasets into operational tools to support policy makers and institutional stakeholders, with application in two main areas:
- Prevention of vector-borne diseases, with pilot areas in the Provinces of Ravenna and Ferrara.
- Analysis of the vulnerability of the agri-food system, with focus on the territories of Parma and Reggio Emilia and on the strategic supply chains of fodder for Parmigiano Reggiano and industrial tomatoes.
MEEO deals with the selection of specific climate indicators, based on historical and current data, that influence the life cycle of the common mosquito and agricultural yields.
These indicators are integrated with climate scenarios and auxiliary non-climate datasets (including health and demographic data), feeding Machine Learning (e.g. Random Forest). These Artificial Intelligence models allow us to identify and quantify the relationships between climate variables and observed phenomena, generating reliable forecasting scenarios on the spread of vectors and the trend of agricultural yields.
